Ellie comes up with some good ideas on how to move things along. At the same time, she wants to just have fun and let loose. Unfortunately, some one almost takes that too far. Fortunately, Jake was there.

Ellie's plans come to fruition and she's going to college. Before she goes, she just has one request from Jake and it's a doozy. (Thank Goodness!)

The Wife is the second book in the The Bride series. You have to read the books in order. I feel differently with this one than I did with the first one. I think because I was ready for some action and this one was a little flat. Honestly the entire book felt like 3 stars to me, until the end.

Jake and Ellie continue to work on their odd relationship. They both have feelings for each other, but they both know nothing more can come of it.

I guess what disappointed me was that I felt like Ellie was crushing on Jake more than the other way around. I'm not usually a fan of the Heroine chasing after the Hero. Ellie didn't throw herself at him, but I did feel bad for the girl.

Jake continues to push Ellie away and the reason for them not finally being together didn't really make sense to me. It was explained a few times in the book, but still it just didn't make sense. I felt like they weren't together for the sake to drag the book out a little longer.

I kind of felt like this book was not really needed.

But I kept on going back to reading it because I was waiting for something to happen.

Like I said the ending kind of made me feel better only because I felt like there was some tension and progression of the story and I felt like it was going somewhere.

I will move forward with the series, but I'm going to take a break. Sometimes I feel like when an author pushes a little too much with a storyline it's kind of a turn off.

The Wife picks up right where The Bride left off and tensions are high between Ellie and Jake. I am loving this series and this book broke my heart. Ellie and Jake will need to go their separate ways but will they be able to live with out each other? These were my thoughts as my emotions were all over the place. Jake is confused about what he is feeling towards Ellie and unfortunately he keeps breaking her heart.

We'll be honest and say we didn't get the KA vibe at all, with neither the story nor the writing bearing any resemblance to the KA books we've read, however each reader feels a story differently.

This coming of age drama was laden with drama and angst. Boy did these two make life difficult for themselves as they adapted to living together. At first, we struggled to get into the story, however we soon found our groove and needed to know how this was all going to play out.

The trilogy is told in dual POV's with Ellie's side of the story was told more in the way of a memoir and so it read as a naïve, hormonal, confused 16 year old, so the immaturity of her voice was to be expected. We loved that Ellie remained strong, sticking to her guns about her worth, with Jake's pov bringing a balance to the story.

'What if I married Ellie thinking I could save her, but instead ruined her life because people though she was the type of girl who could be seduced?'

This is one angst ridden ride. The kind that makes you want to throw your hands up in frustration whilst at the same time flipping to the next page to see what happens. Jake and Ellie's relationship is a whirlwind of emotions that's for sure. An entertaining read tracing the trials and tribulations of a friends to lover's romance..... So in book one Ellie who's 16 and has been left alone in the world is faced with the prospect of being fostered and having to move away from the ranch where she grew up. Jake her late fathers foreman decides to save her from that by marrying Ellie temporarily till her 18th birthday, so this is a marriage of convenience. Jake at the time of the marriage is in his late twenties, so there's quite an age gap.

In this book there are certain circumstances that happen which affects this marriage. Ellie and Jake have always been friends, and while on paper their marriage seemed liked a good idea, things get a bit messy. Ellie is now 18 so she's legally an adult in this.

This book had parts where I thought the plot was well thought out and the pacing was good, but then the author seemed to like to throw in angsty situations in an attempt to make this more interesting, but those just came across as unrealistic and ridiculous IMO. For instance a young hot blond vet arrives at the ranch one day supposedly there as she's interested in Jake's husbandry program. she's staying in town with family for a while and as she states quite blatantly to Jake and Ellie at their first meeting, that she'd heard around town that their marriage wasn't real, and then proceeded in front of Ellie to make it clear she's was interested in Jake, as in sexually. Jake who is fast becoming one of my least favourite characters returns her interest, they start dating, and she's coming out to the ranch to see Jake all this right under Ellie's nose, and as Ellie had made it clear to Jake that she really liked him previously by attempting to come on to him, but he'd rejected her. So knowing that Ellie must have some feelings for him it was bang out of order on Jake's part to start a relationship with this woman right in front of Ellie. At the same time Jake frowned on Ellie wanting to meet someone herself. I find him hypocritical and weak.
I'm beginning to think that this story could have been condensed into I maybe 2 books.

Because of Ellie's age, we will disclose that there is no underage sex in this story, in fact, Jake shows a tremendous amount of restraint with the hormonally awakening Ellie, respecting her age and their platonic predicament implicitly and Ellie wanting to give herself over to love, settling for nothing less.

"Jake. I deserve to be loved as much as I love you."

At nearly 17, Ellie Mason, is left an orphan and a multimillion dollar cattle ranch in Montana, after her father's death. With no legal guardian, the only option available for Ellie is to go into Foster care. However, this option doesn't suit Jake Talley, the family cattle hand who lives in the bunkhouse on their ranch, was right hand man to Ellie's dad and really, the only 'family' Ellie now has. Jake decides the best solution and to avoid the foster system, even if it is for sixteen months, is to marry Ellie, divorcing when she turns 18. There's a 10 year gap between the pair and Jake looks upon Ellie as a little girl, he hasn't yet noticed to maturing woman before him. So, he can do this for sixteen months can't he? Stay in a platonic marriage to keep the ranch and Ellie's dad's legacy. Except, Ellie is blossoming before his eyes and Jake wants to make sure Elllie's virtue remains intact so as not to draw town gossip to their relationship.

'What if I married Ellie thinking I could save her, but instead ruined her life because people though she was the type of girl who could be seduced?'

The story takes us from Ellie being the bride, the wife, the lover as is evident from the titles and in that process we see the growth of Ellie's character as she comes into her own from young innocence to womanhood.

"You are the most important person in my life. I'm the most important person in yours. I don't want you to end up hating me."

This is one angst ridden ride. The kind that makes you want to throw your hands up in frustration whilst at the same time flipping to the next page to see what happens. Jake and Ellie's relationship is a whirlwind of emotions that's for sure. An entertaining read tracing the trials and tribulations of a friends to lover's romance.

This is probably the biggest temper tantrum Ive ever read from an H because he's horny and he's mad he's having no sex:

And then it came out. All my anger and rage. All of it spewing up and out. I banged on the door hard. "You know what Ellie, FUCK YOU! I did this thing FOR YOU! I married you! I kept you out of the foster system. I did that! I kept your ranch running. I kept your legacy alive for you. I put my life on hold FOR YOU! And now I'm trapped in this fucking marriage that I can't get out of. I can't touch you. I can't fuck anyone else. And I'm the bad guy. Always guilty. Always doing something wrong no matter what I do. No matter why I'm doing it. And I fucking hate you for that! Can you hear me behind your locked door, Ellie? I hate you for that!"

Ellie honey if you stab this man in his sleep I'll be your alibi n swear to the cops you were at my place the whole night. Cuz I cannot believe this ugly ass man had the audacity to be like "I DID THIS FOR YOU". Lmao go fuck yourself. Don't do nice things for people if you're gonna throw it back in their face the second things go wrong.

And to be perfectly clear, he VOLUNTARILY married her because her dad did him the biggest favor for years before his death and the H realized that there's no way he can let his daughter get lost in the foster system. He was never forced to do it, and the h asked him so many times if he was 100% sure. This mans said yes and now that he hasn't had sex in a few weeks he's out here screaming crying throwing up.

Highlight of my DAY was when Ellie decided he was right so she went and got the divorce papers ready and enrolled herself in college.
Queen shit 👑

"I've already signed up for courses and arranged for a dorm room. I need to be there the first week of January. Actually I was hoping you could take me. I'm not allowed to have a car on campus my first year."
"You've been planning this for weeks," he said as if I cold-cocked him. "And you didn't say a damn thing to me."

Yeah asshole she was absolutely planning that for weeks. Hustle in silence and let your success make the noise, u never heard of that?

So anyways I was here for Ellie's queen behavior up until the point where she begs the H to take her virginity the night before they sign the divorce papers.

Ellie sweetie you were doing so good!!! Why would u beg this ugly horny man like that?? HE DIDN'T EVEN GROVEL FOR THE SHIT HE SAID. All he did was say a couple of sorrys and then got himself super drunk and DROVE to the cabin she was staying in to get her to come home. And the next morning they were good?? 🤣

And here's this little gem when they were at the lawyers office getting ready to sign the divorce papers:

I didn't want to read the document. I didn't want to be in this conference room. I didn't want to divorce my wife. I wanted to fuck my wife.

This man needs to be castrated. Let it be known I do not support their HEA.

4 stars only bc I'm a slut for angst and this book was so good for that. Can the author plz introduce a new H for Ellie in the next book tho 🥲

My God! What is the male character's age? ?14 !??? I think the author was wrong to describe her characters, because the teenager in the story with no idea what wants is not the woman. She certainly acted as proposed and expected for her age group, but he ??? So much to find a male character that was worth it! Just one more weak, immature with mental and emotional age of a fetus. I didn't think things could get any harder for Jake and Ellie, but boy was I wrong! I mean not only is Ellie almost of legal age, but both Jake and Ellie are experiencing feelings for one another that are harder to ignore and nearing the edge of no return. I completely understood both Jake and Ellie and their frustrations with their desires. It was really hard to dislike either of them. I mean their circumstances are not ideal. However that chemistry and the pull they feel towards one another is real and watching them try to fight it and do the right thing was so hard. I wanted to reach into my e-reader and grab both of them by the shoulders and shake them.

While reading, thoughts of O. Henry's famous and beloved story "The Gift of the Magi"kept coming to me. While The Wife is not even close to being a modern retelling, Ellie and Jake's need to put the other first is strongly reminiscent of the husband and wife in that story.

Hopefully this is cohesive and cognizant, because all I can think is,"I need more!". I'm off to immerse myself in The Lover because I HAVE to know how Jake and Ellie handle all the changes that have come into their relationship and if they're anywhere near where they used to be.

So due to the frost, they can't get divorced and need to wait three years until Ellie gets her trust fund. They get along great. They are best friends. But they are obviously both attracted to each other and because this book is told from both points of view, you can see they are both attracted to each other and fighting off the attraction. And then Carol shows up... Carol is a traveling large animal vet who has heard about Jake's insemination techniques - with cattle - don't get too excited y'all!!! Minds out the gutter please!!!!

But when Carol shows up, things get messed up. The delicate balance get thrown one day when Ellie comes to the kitchen one morning to a situation and leaps to the obvious conclusion, which is wrong. She blows up; Jake blows up EVEN WORSE (gosh he was so ugly - she is 18 for goodness sake!!) and Ellie feels like she needs to leave her ranch to make things better.

Ellie goes to the lawyer with a solution. It is an obvious solution but when she presents it to Jake, he is pissed that she didn't come to him to discuss it first. But the book ends in an obvious place - where they can both live their lives, separately but together... Can't wait to read The Lover!

And to answer any questions you have about her being underage, nothing happens while she is a minor.
